Bed bugs have been pesky to humans for centuries. There are records of bed bugs dating back to ancient Egypt! Once thought to be completely eradicated from the US, bed bugs have been a major issue in the US since the early 2000s.
In South Florida, we have some of the worst infestations in the world! They travel, they hide, they multiply quickly, and they adapt to be immune to pesticides quickly. They can be very difficult, if not impossible, to control without a professional's help.
What is a bedbug?
Bed bugs are a small, flat, brownish-reddish parasite that mostly feeds on human blood. Because they are a slow-moving bug that cannot cling very well, they commonly nest as close to their prey as they can and attack when they are asleep. That makes beds, bed frames, blankets, pillows, couches, arm chairs, and even carpet perfect to hide, nest, and wait for their prey.
Why are bedbugs such a problem?

How do I know if I have bed bugs?
Bed bugs are visible to the naked eye. They are normally found in the folds and seams of a mattress, between the mattress and box spring, under pillows, and along bed frames.

You can also see their droppings. Their droppings are usually visible along mattress seams and resemble black dots.

How did I get bed bugs?
Bed bugs are known as "hitch-hiker" pests, hopping rides from one place to another. Virtually any place someone can sit or lay down can potentially have bed bugs. Common nests are found in hotel beds, airplane or bus seats, used clothing or furniture, and luggage.

Bed bugs slowly make their way from their nest to your shoes, clothes, or luggage and hop a ride with you to your home, where they lay eggs and begin to nest.

Bed bugs can also be introduced into your home by a third party. If you had someone with bed bugs traveling with them visit with you, sit on your furniture, and/or sleep in your home, there is a good chance you could end up with a problem in your home.
